IW.COM: How and when did you become a Christian?
ANDY: At 17, I entered into a real relationship with the Lord upon entering university. My church experience before that had taught me the basics of the Gospel, but I lacked a living faith. In the summer before my freshman year, I read a book commenting on the Sermon on the Mount, which sparked something in me. I realized there was a much deeper level of Christian experience waiting for me. I sought out Christian fellowship, and became immersed in the Bible, in prayer, fellowship and in good teaching.
IW.COM: How did you get involved in worship ministry?
ANDY: I had been playing stringed instruments since I was eight or nine. When I caught fire with love for God, it was natural for me to express that love through the guitar. I started learning worship songs and, within a few months, was leading worship in a small group in West Los Angeles.
IW.COM: What Bible verse is most central in your life right now?
ANDY: I've just been reading through the book of Exodus. What stands out to me is that God puts us, His people, in impossible situations for the very purpose of showing that He is the only one who can rescue us, provide for us, and protect us. When He saves the day, He is glorified. Only God could have delivered the Hebrews from the tyranny of Pharaoh's rule. He is making His name famous in the earth. Our focus should be the same as His. To not complain because everything isn't perfect for us, but to glorify Him in all we do.
IW.COM: What are you passionate about at this time in your life?
ANDY: I'm passionate about the basics. To Love God and love my neighbor. My neighbor, you could say, is my family. I have eight kids and a wonderful wife. As wonderful as they are, it’s challenging to always be loving, patient, and kind.
I'm also really looking forward to worshiping God in the months to come. I believe there are some fresh winds of the Holy Spirit coming soon.
IW.COM: What is the most important thing a person should understand about worship?
ANDY: Worship is a moment-by-moment thing. Our attitudes, motives, conversations and actions should all be done as unto the Lord. The music we do is only a small slice of the pie. The essence of worship can be expressed in our everyday living, in our conversations with God, and in the way we treat other people.
IW.COM: What kind of music do you listen to?
ANDY: I listen to all kinds of music. My taste in music is quite eclectic. I like everything from pop, rock, electronica, to classical, and jazz.
IW.COM: What’s your favorite album of all time?
ANDY: I’ve got too many favorites, I couldn’t name just one.
