Terry Butler offers a great group exercise and study on truly living
the Christian life of worship.
Terry shares an excellent small group
study and discussion for worship teams. Titled, "Now To Live
The Life", this discussion uses Matt Redman's song of the same title
as a centerpiece on the discussion and study of something that is so
important to emphasize to our worship leaders and teams: That
Worship is more than singing songs on Sunday morning.
Being an Authentic Worshipper
(1) Play the song, “Now to Live the Life” (Matt Redman - “The Heart of Worship”
CD)or have someone on the worship team read the lyrics to the song (below).
(2) Break up into small groups (3-4 people)
(3) Doing each section one at a time, read the scripture passage(s) out loud
together.
(4) Discuss/dialogue about the verses (What is it saying to you?/How does this
apply to where you are at right now?/how is it challenging you to grow?)
(5) You may choose to pray together after each bulleted section or pray at the
end of all three.
What does authentic worship look like?
- It means we have a radical allegiance to God
Scripture: Daniel 3:16-18
“No other gods…” (Deut.5:7)
Not just what we will do but what we won’t do
- It means we worship with reckless abandon
Scripture: 2 Samuel 6: 12-15, 21-22
With all our heart, mind, body, soul, strength
Full authentic expression of love and adoration to Him
“I will be even more undignified than this…”
- It means we are available
Scripture: I Sam.15:22
Seeing ourselves as servants of the Most High God (Phil. 2)
“Trust and obey” - “where He leads, I will follow”
Open to discipline
Ready for adventure!
Many are the words we speak
Many are the songs we sing
Many kinds of offerings
Now to live the life
(We hope that) Precious are the
words we speak
(We pray that) Precious are the
songs we sing
Precious all these offerings
Now to live the life
Help us live the life
Help us live the life
All we want to do
Is bring you something real
Bring You something true
Now to go the extra mile
Now to turn the other cheek
And to serve You with our life
Let us share your fellowship
Even of your sufferings
Never let the passion die…
Now to live the life…
