Joel 2 describes a national crisis in ancient Israel that would only be
changed by people gathering before God to cry out with prayer and
fasting for mercy. Joel called these gatherings "solemn assemblies."
The result was that disaster zones could become revival centers where
the blessing of God is released in the very place of God's judgment
(Joel 2:13-14).

There's a troublesome little phrase that occurs
right in the middle of Psalm 51. As you may know, Psalm 51 is King
David's song of repentance after he committed adultery with Bathsheba,
then murdered her husband to cover up the sin and deception. David got
confronted with the situation, and his response was to repent deeply,
throwing himself on the mercies of God.
