God desires to impart to our hearts, and seal our hearts with, a seal of fiery love

buddysheets.jpg6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it... (Song of Solomon 8:6-7)

Interpreting the Song of Solomon

The Song of Solomon is an eight-chapter love song between King Solomon and the Shunammite maiden. It is a real love song that extols and magnifies the beauty of married love. But it is not only a natural love song, it is also a dynamic picture of King Jesus and the Bride of Christ.

God's people living in a darkened, fallen world need wisdom. God offers us wisdom both from His Word and through the ministry of His Spirit (given in response to believing prayer for it). The Bible is full of wisdom, full of exhortations to seek wisdom, and full of promises to offer us wisdom. But even though the theme of wisdom is sprinkled throughout the entirety of Scripture, there is also one individual book whose theme is particularly concerned with wisdom, it is wisdom concentrated - the book of Proverbs.

In the same way, the themes of intimacy with God and the proceeses of spiritual growth and maturation are covered throughout the entirety of Scropture, in both the Old and New Testaments. But there is also one individual book whose theme is particularly concerned with those same themes; intimacy with God, and the proccesses of spiritual growth and maturation, it is "intimacy concentrated" - the book of the Song of Solomon.

The Seal and Fire of God

One of the main goals of the Lord concerning the truths contained in the Song of Solomon is the impartation of the seal and fire of God to human hearts. In ancient times, a king’s document was sealed in wax, and his signet ring was impressed into the wax. Any thing thus sealed was considered under the direct authority and protection of the king and all of his forces. If someone broke open anything sealed by the king, the penalty was death! The seal of the king was that important.

It is the same with the seal of God - it is important. God wants us to set Jesus as the seal on our heart, to proclaim boldly and openly to all that our heart is under the direct authority and protection of the King and all of His forces. We set Jesus as the seal upon our heart by worshiping Him, focusing on Him, adoring Him, believing His Word and living lives of conformity and obedience to the affections of His heart.

When we choose to set Jesus as the seal upon our heart, not just as a one time event, but as our focus and lifestyle, then God responds to that decision by releasing the supernatural fire of God, imparting it to the human spirit revealed as the fire of divine love that is more powerful than water - it cannot be quenched.

In the natural, water puts out fire. There are many factors, both natural and spiritual that are at work to diminish and extinguish the fire of God in our hearts and lives. And if we have not set Jesus as the seal upon our heart, and then followed up on that one time event by living a lifestyle that demonstrates our submission to His authority and protection, then those factors will have a greater potentiality of succeeding.

If we want to remain constantly aligned with the heart of God, if we want to be protected from the onslaughts of the enemy, if we want to be shielded from the spirit of the age that is working to pull us away from our devotion the Jesus, then we need the fire of God set as a seal upon our heart. Jesus is the eternal intercessor (Heb. 7:25). If we want to be like Him then we will live lives of intercession (Matt. 21:13). You will be far more effective as an intercessor, if you experience this fire upon your heart.

I am prophesying the fact that God is sovereignly going to put this seal of fire upon the End-Time Church all around the world. His desire in doing this, among other things, is to change the understanding and expression of His Church. The Church of Jesus Christ will have a House of prayer reality at it's core. To facilitate this happening, God is moving throughout the Church raising up a prayer movement, a prophetic movement and a waorship movement.

Even though God is releasing His seal in the hearts of His people, and will increasingly do so in the days, weeks, months and years ahead, I do not believe that we will see the purposes of God maximized, or go to the next level of power and authority in a manifest way if we do not understand this reality of our identity as the Bride of Christ.

The Church is proclaimed throughout Scripture as being the Bride of Christ. Being the Bride is not an issue of gender, sensuality or sexuality. Jesus is not our "boyfriend". This is entirely outside the realm of revelation in the Scriptures. Women are sons of God and men are the Bride of Christ - these are metaphors, analogies expressing spiritual realities and truths that are vital for us to understand and to relate to.

Men, identifing yourselves as being part of the Corporate Bride of Christ does not diminish your mascalinity, it actually enhances and increases it. Some of the greatest men in the Scriptures and throughout redemptive history walked in this revelation. For example, King David and John the Baptist loved Jesus, were extravagant, lovesick worshippers and yet were known near and far as being "a man's man".

King David, who was the earthly king of the nation of Israel, who was one of the most powerful political figures of his time, and who was a mighty warrior said that he desired only one thing above all other things – to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. (Psalm 27:4)

Set Jesus as the Seal Upon Your Heart

Let me encourage you to take the time to get alone with the Lord, pull the shade down, take the phone off the hook (or turn the ringer off), and take Song of Solomon 8:6 before the Lord and ask Him to be the Seal upon your heart. Ask Him what you need to do in your own life to live out a reality of being a lovesick worshipper of Jesus Christ. And then ask Him to release the very fire of God in your heart making you fully His, both in time and eternity.

You will never be the same again!
